Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder - ADHD and ADD
ADHD Support Group The objectives of the group are, to provide support for parents and carers of children/young people with behavioural problems, ADHD and linked illnesses and to provide them with opportunities to take part in activities. Membership is open to families living in Hastings, St.Leonards and rural Rother. The group meets every Tuesday 9.30am - 11.30am at the Elphinstone Family Centre.

Autism and Autistic Spectrum Disorder
Autism Family Support Group - Bexhill Social Group offering support and information for families who have a child with autism.

Sussex Autistic Society Sussex Autistic Society provides services across the whole of Sussex to people on the autistic spectrum and their families.

Their services include Family Centres in Rustington and Eastbourne, an Outreach Respite Service, a Behavioural Support Programme, family support, and training for professionals, parents and carers on autism. They also manage a Residential Unit.

Behaviour
Behaviour Support Service (West) The Behaviour Support Service works with schools to support children with behavioural difficulties who have not responded to interventions by the school. Only accepts referrals from schools.

Crossroads - Hastings and Rother Crossroads Caring for Carers Crossroads works to relieve the stresses experienced by carers and people with physical, mental or sensory impairment within the family or home by offering a respite service through the provision of community based care attendants and, at the discretion of the management committee and in exceptional circumstances, to provide such care attendants for disabled people living alone.

Cerebral Palsy
Scope - East Sussex Disability organisation whose focus is people with cerebral palsy. Our aim is that disabled people achieve equality: a society in which they are as valued and have the same human and civil rights as everyone else.

Deafness
SENSE (South Coast Branch) We are a voluntary group of local parents and friends of children, some now adult, who are deaf, blind or deafblind, sometimes with associated learning or physical disabilities. We get together to enjoy ourselves and give each other mutual support. Our activities include walks, quizzes picnics and maybe a party or two, plus other opportunities that come our way including talks, conferences and workshops on any subject that may affect deafblind issues. We also try to keep a 'sharp eye' on any changes in legislation that may affect us or our families and friends.

Sensory Impairment - children and young people The service for children with sensory needs (SCSN) support both hearing impaired (HI) and visually impaired (VI) children and young people, their families and teachers. They can provide support for a child from pre-school age through to school leaving and further education.

Chailey Heritage Clinical Services Chailey Heritage Clinical Services provides multi-professional advice, assessment and treatment for children and young adults with multiple and complex disabilities.

Crossroads Kids Play Schemes for Children with Special Needs The offer fun, friendly and interesting activities in a safe and secure setting, always ensuring that your child's needs are taken into consideration. The play schemes are open to children aged 8 - 18 years of age. The play schemes operate in four areas: Hailsham, Stone Cross, East Dean and Uckfield, and are open from 10am to 4pm.

Family Intensive Support Service - FISS The Family Intensive Support Service provides support to learning disabled children and young people and their families. The team adopts a multi-disciplinary partnership approach to working with families and was one of the first services in the country to develop the 'Team around the Child' as a way of supporting children with complex needs.

FISS, which is part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, now works with families throughout East Sussex.

Lark in the Park Charitable Trust Lark in the Park is an Eastbourne based Charitable Trust for local youngsters with special needs. We deal with ages 5 - 25 and the disabilities include Downs syndrome, Autism and Cerebral Palsy. At present Lark in the Park provides an annual respite holiday for the children and also a Christmas party. We strive to provide support and advice for youngsters and their carers.

Paediatric Occupational Therapy The Occupational Therapy Service is provided by a small team of Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants based at the Eversfield Centre in St. Leonards. The team seeks to provide quality community services to children and young people living in the Hastings and Rother PCT area. We see children and young people up to 16 years old (and 19 if in full time school) with complex functional needs in the performance areas of self-care, education and play/leisure, with or without a diagnosis.

Service for Children with Sensory Needs The SCSN is part of the inclusion support services provided by East Sussex Children's Services Authority which aims to meet the needs of hearing impaired and visually impaired children from pre-school right through to leaving school.

Smile Club A safe, supervised environment for children with disabilities from age 8 to 14 offering activities including art, craft, books, puzzles, PlayStation, DVD's, indoor/outdoor sports, music and lots more. Every Monday to Friday from 3pm - 6pm during term time and during the holidays. The service is provided by the After School and Holiday Play Scheme Service of the Children's Disability Team.

Sovereign Pirates (Juniors) A junior sports club for those of 6 -16 years old and who have disabilities. The club meets every Wednesday 5 - 6pm and is completely free. Activities include Boccia, bowls, sports, games, table tennis, volley ball and polybat.

Special Olympics Athletics (Eastbourne) An athletics club for those with learning disabilities aged between 8 and 80. Meets every Thursday 4.30pm - 6.00pm. Entry is free. Term time only.

The South Downs Community Special School Support for pupils with autism, speech and language difficulties and complex learning difficulties. Speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and an occupational therapist work with pupils who have particular needs. The school provides a range of extended school activities including afterschool childcare and holiday playschemes. Torfield Kids' Club (Hastings) Usually at Torfield School or in the Nurture Centre at Elphinstone School, Parker Road, Hastings. This is another of the clubs run by the After School and Holiday Playscheme Service for children aged 8 - 11 with a statement of special educational needs. Activities include indoor/outdoor sports, art and craft, cookery, trips out and much more! Open during school holidays from 9am to 5pm.

Torfield School A school for boys and girls aged 4 - 11. There are support facilities for pupils with communication, speech and language difficulties, complex learning difficulties and autism. Additional specialist provision for pupils with more profound autism, with significant input from speech and language therapy. Inclusion outreach team offers support and training to mainstream schools. Torfield School and South Downs Extended Schools CIC run play schemes during the holidays.

Uckfield Phab Club Uckfield club offers a wide range of activities including days in and out, but more importantly it offers a place where disabled and non-disabled people can meet, have a cup of tea and enjoy each others company. They meet on Saturdays at the Community College Youth Club from 2pm-4pm. A club for all ages.

Early Years Teaching Support Service The EYTSS is a team of specialist Early Years Teachers and Support Staff working across the county with pre-school children who have special educational needs.

East Sussex Care Co-ordination Scheme The East Sussex Early Support and Care Co-ordination Scheme provides Key Worker support for pre-school children with complex needs.

A Key Worker can:

o Be the first point of contact, offering information and support

o Visit or call regularly, not just when there is a problem

o Listen to the family’s views and ensure that other professionals are aware of them

o Co-ordinate assessments and arrange meetings

Key Workers are usually someone the family already knows, eg a Health Visitor, School Nurse, Teacher or Social Worker. Referrals can be made by families or by any professional working with the child and family.

Butterflies - Lewes A community group in Lewes for children aged 0-5 with special needs and their parents. The group meets every Monday morning from 9.30am - 11.30am during term time at Eastgate Baptist Church hall, Eastgate Street, Lewes. Educational Psychology Service (Hastings) They help schools, families and the Children's Services Authority to identify and meet the special educational needs of children and young people aged 0 to 19 years. We work with SENCOs teaching staff and pupils. Using psychological theory and research we offer advice on how to best meet individual needs, including those arising from learning, emotional, behavioural, language, developmental, physical and sensory difficulties.
